The Honorable Land Commissioners, House of the Privy Council, Greetings: I, the undersigned, hereby state my claim for land which I possess, consisting of some taro lo`is. They are in the `ili of Kalama and are bounded on the north by the land of Kaluahinenui, on the east and south by the land of Kalama, on the west by the land of Maneo. I got this land in 1840. That is what I have to tell you here.

.... he incident of Kalama taking his land; however, I have not known the reason for this action. The konohiki would be the only person to know of Nika's misdoing.

Kawelo, who is the konohiki's assistant, had come and had stated the reason Kalama had taken the land away. He (Nika) had let the patches be overrun with weeds and had not utilized them gainfully for the konohiki. The man did not appear before the tax assessor because of the konohiki's action.
