To the Land Commissioners, greetings, from God: I, Kaiaiki, a subject of Hawaii living in the Ahupua`a of Waimea on the island of Kauai, have ten lo`i. Five lo`i are in the `ili of Auki. On the north of these lo`is is Puukapele, on the north east is the lo`i of Kaleoku, on the southeast is the mo`o of Nainoa, on the west side is a pali. Furthermore, in the `ili of Awa are five lo`i. On the north is the mo`o of Nainoa, on the northeast is Aoa, on the southeast is the mo`o of Kaowa, on the west side is the lo`i of Noma. Furthermore, my house site is 3 chains on the north, turn nort ....

[Part of letter sent by G. Rowel concerning Land Commission Awards on Kauai]

In survey of the above [3587/6752] I discovered that Mr. Pease has also cut off a large slice of Kaiaiki's No. 7672. Lot No. 1. he gives the names of No. 1 S. boundaries correctly, but his survey makes the width much narrower than it really is. It all belongs to Kaiaiki. Neither he nor the Konohiki nor any one else was aware that it was not all included in the survey, I therefore return the Award with a resurvey of that piece.
