Received the following petition
August 28, 1872
To the Honorable Duncan McBryde, Commissioner of Boundaries, &c, &c, Island of Kauai

The undersigned Guardians of the person and property of William C. Lunalilo would respectly [sic] ask that the boundaries of the Ahupuaa of Pilaa, situated in the District of Koolau, Island of Kaua, may be defined and settled. The survey and notes are herewith filed.

The land of Pilaa is bounded by Waipake belonging to Naiole, by Papaa formerly belonging to the late Reverend E. Johnston, by Lepeule belonging to the Hawaiian Government and by the sea.

Thereupon appointed the 5th day of November 10 a.m. for the hearing of said petition, and caused due notice of the same to be served on the owners of the adjoining lands.

November 5, Court opened at Pilaa 10 a.m.

The following witnesses, Kuaa, Pikalama & Kaneuleuohia were sworn and from their evidence now on file the following decision was rendered.

.... 21° 7' East 1905 links down side of hill & along gully, thro hau bush to top of hill called "Pailai"
North 10° 30' East 3400 links; at 860 links crosses the Government road & on to "Kualaii,"
North 8° 59' West 1500 links to the top of rocky pali
North 12248 38' West 1246 links crossing a gully & along the sides of ride [ridge] to top of spur;
North 17° 9' East 390 links down face of pali to stone on beach called "Pohakumalumalu" & continued on out to sea to from boundary of fishing right & thence in Easterly direction to place of commencement & containing an area of One thousand Five hundred & Twenty acres, 1,520 acres.

N.B. at all stations on the survey three are good marks have been put. Either three stones & a broken bottle placed thus [diagram stones form triangle with bottle in center] or three holes & a bottles thus [three holes form triangle with bottle in each]
