To the President of the Land Commissioners, and the other four Commissioners, greetings: In accordance with the Law for the claimants therefore I give you my ancient claim, from my kupunas. My claim which I hereby give you to administer is in Makaweli, on the island of Kauai.

This basis of my claim is as follow: When Kaeo was the ruler of Kauai he gave Makaweli to his kaikuahine, Manuhaaipo. That is finished.

When Kaumualii was the Konohiki of Kauai, he gave Makaweli to his kaikuahine, Kailinaoa, from Kawiliwili to the boundary adjoining Waimea. When Kaumualii died Kalaimoku sent Kahalaia to rule on Kauai. Kauai rebelled against Kaha ....

Alapa, sworn, he has seen claimants ili land in Waimea called Puuwahie from Kaumualii and five tenants are living on this land. Title is clear.

Kapuniai, sworn, he has seen Ahukai's ili land in Waimea, the tenants are Nanuinui, Kanakahi, Ipunui, Kueheana and Kunihi. He verifies Alapa's testimony. Ahukai has no claim in Makaweli, he [she] is an overseer only.
