Waianae: Kanele is the one from whom I received my right in 1842. I have five lo,i, five kukui trees, two taro patch banks planted with sugar cane, and one taro patch planted with ti leaf plants. One /dried out/ lo`i is planted in bananas. The witness is Kaeo. The head is Kanele.

Puaa: There are 12 mo`o, planted with sugar cane, bananas, four breadfruit trees, two grape vines, eight kukui trees. There are four houses in this parcel. The witness is Kaeo, he is the head. /There is/ an orange tree.

Hoapili was the one from whom I received my right, in 1842. He has died, and at this time Kanaina is at the head. The house lot claim is from him. Those are the claims of occupancy in Lahaina, for your information, O Land Commissioners.

Keaweluaole, sworn, I know the house lot of Claimant in Lahaina. It is now occupied by Victor Chancerot as an eating house &c. It is fenced. The fence is the correct boundary.

Claimant got this land from Hoapili Kane and built the house on it & fence. I never heard the title disputed. Claimant has had peaceable possession and now rents the premises. I do not kn ....

Pelupelu, sworn, I have seen that place over which there is a dispute between C. Kanaina and Ninia. Mrs. Hoapili gave this place to Puhipuhi, the wife of Makaulia before she (Mrs. Hoapili) died. 'It was a place for them to live under her and they did live there peacefully. I had not heard in the least that it was given to Naahelu, the wife of Ninia because I had always lived with Mrs. Hoapili until she died. Ninia and relatives lived close to the Hoapilis to enable them to have their meals with them and this was protection only for them, he did not get the ground (land). When M. Kekauluohi died, C. Kanaina opposed as an heir of M. Kekauluohi. Ninia did not get the ground, this is for the heirs of Mrs. Hoapili.

Ninia (Question): Did you always live with Hoapili?
Pelupelu (Answer): Yes, I have always lived with him and was with him at the time of his death, but I had not heard that he had given to you both permanently, but it was protection that you would have. M. Kekauluohi had placed you there and she let you build a house, but the land was reserved for her heirs.
