Royal Patent Upon the Confirmation of the Land Commission.
Whereas, the Land Commission to quiet Land Titles have by their decision awarded unto Kamakahonu, Mahele Award 37, an estate of Freehold less than Allodial, in and to the land hereafter described, and whereas proper application having been made by James Woods to the Minister of Interior for a Royal Patent on the within described land the Government Commutation amounting to Three Hundred & seventy-eight dollars, having been paid,
Therefore, Kalakaua, by the Grace of God, King of the Hawaiian Islands, by this Royal Patent makes known to all men, that he has, for himself and his successors in office, this day granted and given absolutely, in Fee Simple, unto Kamakahonu, all that certain piece of land situate at North Kohala, known as Nunulu Nui & Nunulu iki in the island of Hawaii, and described as follows:
Boundaries of Nunulu Nui
Beginning at a rock marked H of the corner of this land and the land of "Pueohawai" on the makai boundary of land of Lamaloloa. Thence along east side of Puukamuu
North 6° 15' West 650 feet to a rock marked H on North side of Puupakai; Thence
North 25° 15' West 2310 feet t ....

South 36 1/2° East 8.00 chains; thence
North 89 1/2° West 2.90 chains; thence
South 85° West 2.55 chains [along] the boundary of the land of Lamalaloa; thence along said land;
South 49° West 24.00 chains; thence along a portion of said land as described in Royal Patent 2725 [Land Grant];
North 55° West 6.00 chains; thence
South 81° West 600 chains; thence;
South 83 1/2° West 12.50 chains to place of commencement
Containing an area of 331 Acres [note below: 1183]

Containing 1514 Acres more or less; excepting and reserving to the Hawaiian Government, all mineral and metallic mines of every description,
To Have and To Hold, the above granted land in Fee Simple, unto the said Kamakahonu [his] Heirs and Assigns forever, subject to the taxes to be from time to time imposed by the Legislative Council equally upon all landed Property held in Fee Simple.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the Great Seal of the Hawaiian Islands to be affixed this 8th day of August, 1883.
