To the Secretary, Sir,
No. 1: I beg you a copy of a deed from his Majesty, being a transfer of land as therein mentioned to me, that you may be pleased to make the Honorable The Board of Commissioners for lands &c acquainted with the same.
No. 2: Also I beg to state a claim to land situated at the Island of Mooi at the Kaha about 4 Miles distant and to the westward of Waimea on the estate of Na Mahana & named Buka, and which land was given to me by Kakauhaua, then the Governor at Mooi, for work done by me for him, but which land I was afterwards dispossessed of. I have testimony to my occupancy &c of such land.
The favor of your attention to this will much oblige &c &c.

.... people be required to labor for the King, until the natural life of said Brooks shall end, after which, taxes shall be paid, & the people shall labor like the people of other lands.
And Henry L. Brooks agrees on his part that he will continue to labor for the King as he has done previous to the date of this instrument, but the number of days which he shall be required to labour in one year, shall never exceed forty.
In testimony of our mutual assent to this agreement, we have hereunto subscribed our names on this 26th day of October in the Year of our Lord 1840 at Lahaina Maui.
