No. 187, Kalama Wahine a Leoaipalale /Kalama, wife of Leoaipalale/, Honolulu, August 15, 1846
Greetings to you, the Land Commissioners, who weigh the good and the bad. I am petitioning you for my little house lot because of being troubled by the Chiefs, Konia ma, taxing /me/ to work on the land, although I have an absolute, right to that place, which was from Keoholokahiki (sic), and was burned in a fire, and at this time the Alii. Manuia and Poki, set it to rights. It was Manuia who gave it to my husband, Leoaipalale, therefore we built the house and the fence; and my circumstances were comfortable, but at this time I am almost adrift and have no rights. I am a woman born in this Kingdom, but, at this time am very close to having no benefits, therefore, kindly regulate this for this weak body. /person/

.... and I gave it to him as an exchange for another place. Now Kekuanaoa has his place and I have mine. Foreigners are now leasing Kekuanaoa's place. They are John G. Munu and James Robinson.
The place has been enclosed, but there is no house. Twenty dollars is the yearly lease by the foreigners for ten years. No one else owns this property and no one has objected."
John Ii, sworn by the word of God and stated, My testimony for this place is the same as Kalei has just given here about this property, but Kekuanaoa had leased this place to Esepena for ten years at ten dollars annually. The document of the lease is with the government and the years of this lease are close to the end. The hotel is on a separate lot."
