No. 144, Napalaoanui [wahine], Residence, Honolulu, July 15, 1846
To the Land Commissioners: In accordance with the law enacted in 1845, I, the one who has the land described below, a house lot in Honolulu and a real kuleana at Kapalama, under Mose /?/ at this time. I will tell you how I got the house lot and the taro patches at Kapalama. My kane asked the King for a house lot and a place to farm being the taro patches I speak of.
My kane's name was Mika Epane. He was the one who asked the King and the King told John Lui to go and see if there was a separate place, and John Lui saw a separate place and told the King, and therefore this place was given my kane. The King spoke to Palekaluhi Kaikioewa about a farm for t ....

He had received it, perhaps from the chief, yet it is not clear whether the chief did give it or not; however, the chief's subject Keoni Lu had come to survey thoroughly. This is the reason we have known that Napalaoanui and no one else has it (land) to this day. The property has two new houses closed in by a fence. The old houses are not stable.
I had heard at that time that there is land at Kapalama, where seaward of the road are those two patches, patches of weeds. Napalaoanui's land was for her husband. That interest is similar to the one for the house site. She had received them upon the death of her husband. Probably he had received it from the King, and Napalaoanui and no one else has those patches at this time.
