The Land Commissioners, greetings: I, Nuuhiwa, a Hawaiian subject living at Paa on the island of Kauai, hereby state to you my claim for land as follows: 6 lo'i, 3 plantings of offshoot taro, and 4 kuakua pa'akai* That is my claim.

He (Nuuhiwa) died during the epidemic and Kane, his wife, had custody of the land, but the Konohiki Kaninaualii wanted to take two lois for a foreigner because she (Kane) did not do Konohiki labor; however; a witness did say that some of Kane's helpers did go to work.
Hama, sworn, he has seen the land and has heard Kaalae's testimony, it is true.
