To the Board of Land Commissioners, &c.
Gentlemen: I desire to make known to you that I have two small lands known as Pau Kaai Mauka and Opapa Kainoa in the district of Kaneohe, Koolau, Oahu.

I claim the above land in right of my wife to whom they descended from her mother; and evidence will be laid before you that I have had possession of the said land and paid all taxes upon it for the last 12 years.

Mano, sworn for claimant, I know the lands of Mahony wife in Kaneohe, Koolau, consisting of an Ili of the name of Pau, having a fish pond, belonging on the opposite side of the Bay, called Opapaa. Manony's wife Nake, and her ancestors have had possession of this land from about the time that Kuakini was Governor of Oahu (about 1830). Mahony and his wife have had the care of this land about 11 years. I and four others live on it. Their names are Ku, Keakalei, Kalaa and Kane.

.... on it. She has always paid the land tax for the ten years I have known her and I believe she is a qualified konohiki. I have not known Kekuhaupio to have a clear claim.

Puaapilau, sworn, I have seen that ili land where I had once lived previously. That land is for Nake. This is how Nake got this land. Kekuhaupio was unable to contribute for the tax of the land, so Nake paid for all of those many years; therefore, Kuaana has caused her to have this land to this day. She worked hard on it and superintended everything on it well. She alone has claim on the yield of the land in its maturity.

I have come in behalf of my husband, Kekuhaupio. There remains no witness for my side. They're all dead. It is true we have not paid for those years, only Nake has paid the tax for that land to the tax assessor; however, I have one more witness, King Kamehameha III. I believe Nake has no land there; it is mine and she may live as a retainer.
