Know all men by these presents that I, William French, father & guardian of Mariana French ofr[?] at present residing at Oahu, one of the Sandwich Islands, for, and in consideration of the sum of four hudnred dollars lawful money to me in had at the signing of these presents paid by Eliab Grimes of Boston in the United States of America, now residing at the Sandwich Islands, the receipt wwhereof I do hereby achnolwedge, have bargained, sold & delivered & by these presents do bargain, sell, & deliv ....

.... ed that property to his daughter. He decreed it for his daughter in the year 1834 when he died. I do not know the origin of his interest. I think it was from his cousins. I had an annual lease on it and sub-leased it to that and this person for three years. No house tenants would live for a long period of time for I had built a large pili house at that time and enclosed it with a fence. In the year 1837, I sold it to Capt. Grimes. I think Kaopuiki was the landlord of my wife.
