Kamehameha III, By the Grace of God, King of the Hawaiian Islands, by this Royal Patent, makes known, unto all men, that he has for himself and his successors in office, this day granted and given, absolutely, in Fee Simple unto Asher B. Bates, his faithful and loyally disposed subject for the consideration of One Thousand Dollars, paid into the Royal Exchequer, all that certain piece of Land situated at Puiwa, Nuuanu Valley in the Island of Oahu and described as follows:
Commencing at mauka North corner of stone wall enclosing this land joining Kaaeo's[sic.] land on West and running
South 73° 30' East 41 9/10 chains along mauka wall of this land seperating it from Honokaupu's land to and up ridge to top of pali, the East corner of this land, then from point of commencement again and running along wall between this and ....
