Honorable Members of the Privy Council, Greetings: I, the undersigned, hereby petition for my claim of two taro lo`i in the `ili of Kaaleo in Kalihi, whose konohiki is Kama. These lo`is were held by my makuas for a long time, close to perhaps fifteen years. My makuakane died, and my makuahine lived many years after. Before her death in the year 1847 it was taken in June /although/ it had been left to me.

.... the death of his father and it is he who tilled the land while Kupanea was away at Lahainaluna for six years. He returned in 1847 and is now without land. The mother's new spouse still lives.
Kahalehau, sworn, Kupanea is a true claimant for that land, but Kama took the land from Kupanea because he had refused to marry his daughter. It is not a real crime, tax was not lacking and there was a prison penalty. It was just taking away (from Kupanea).
