Petition for rights at Hale Kauwila

I, the undersigned, request that my land be investigated and given to me, because it has been taken. This land is at Waimalu, Oahu.

The reason I got it was that I became Keopuolani's "foreigner" and she gave me my name of Kiwalao, and through her I was given the land in 1807. 1 had it for 15 years, until 1822, then it became someone elses. Liholiho was drunk and gave it to someone else and Keopuolani was angry. Because of losing this land I ask you for it. I have some witnesses to testify that I lived on the land.

Waiaha: From the time my father died besides the three years Wiikoi had it.
Commissioner: And you are released without fault?
Waiaha: Yes, perhaps.
Commissioner: Who has the land now?
Waiaha: Kaaione, my husband.
Commissioner: Then the property has not been taken away.
Waiaha: That is it, perhaps.
The work ended pending the commissioners' decision.
