Pahoa Ili, Waikiki Ahupuaa, District of Kona, Island of Oahu, Boundary Commission, Oahu, Volume 1, No. 1, pps 35-39

Proceedings on application of J. Kahai, to decide & certify to the Boundaries of Pahoa, an Ili of Waikiki, Oahu.

Application was received June 20, 1865 & Survey of the Lands

June 22. Board met & heard the following testimony on the part of Kahai, as regards the boundary adjoining Kekio.

Kalua, wahine, sworn, I live on Kumooiliili & have lived in Honolulu since 1823. I lived on Pahoa many years, up to the time of John Young's death. I know the boundaries of Pahoa from my father, Kualehu, who was the Luna of Pahoa under Olohana, the father of John Young.

Kekio does not extend down to the Government road leading to Waialae, but Pahoa runs there & is bounded by Kapahulu. The boundary commences on that road leading to Waialae at a rock called Punahaha, which is a short distance makai of the road & from there it runs mauka to a rock called Pohaku o Iole, from thence to a rock called Koloa & from thence to a rock called Piliamoo.

Haole, sworn, I have lived on Mooiliili since 1850, I learned the boundaries of Pahoa from Kuaana, who was the son of Kualehu, the Luna of Pahoa. The boundary is the same as Kalua has testified to.

June 26, 1865. The Board met at Palolo & visited the boundary in dispute Pahoa & Kekio, with Kahai & Keekapu & their witnesses.

The boundary pointed out by Kalua this day did not agree with that [what] she described in her testimony June 22. Instead of running from rock called Punahaha to rock called Pohaku o Iole, she pointed it out as following an old path (which crosses the Government Road) to a pile of stone & thence to Pohaku o Iole.

After examining the boundaries, the following testimony was taken.

Upepe, sworn (for Kukapu), I have lived on Palolo, since the Fort in Honolulu was built. Lahiana was the konohiki of Kekio before Pehu, the former husband of Keekapu, [page 36] I lived with Lahaina & he showed me the boundaries of Kekio. The boundary of Kekio runs to Pohaku o Iole & thence to Pohaku Makahuna; & thence to Pohaku Punahaha near Government road & path leading mauka to Palolo.
Cross-examined by Kahai
I was born at Kohala on Hawaii.

Hoaa, wahine, sworn, I have lived at Palolo since the death of Kamehameha I. I learned the boundary of Kekio from my husband Mahana, who was Luna under Lahaina & Pehu.

The boundary of Kekio runs from Pohaku o Iole to Pohaku Makahuna, which is near an old path leading to Manoa from thence to Pohaku Nahaha. Kekio is on the East side, Pahoa on the West.
Cross-examined,
I separated from my husband soon after Kamehameha I died.

June 29. Board met at office
Kaakao, sworn, for Kahai, I live on Kam ....
