Received the following petition,
Honorable Duncan McBryde, Commissioner of Boundaries
Sir:
I am instructed by the commissioners of crown lands to make application to you to define and settle the boundaries of the following lands on the Island of Kauai, viz.
The ahupuaa of Waimea, Hanapepe, Anahola, Hanalei,
I am, Sir, your obedient servant, John O. Dominis., Crown Commissioner & Land Agent.
1875, June 10
Thompson[?] appointed the 10th June 1875 for the hearing of said petition and caused notice to be served on the owners of the adjoining lands.
Court opened at 10 am.
Weuweu, sworn: Boundary of Waimea commences at the sea beach at the mouth of the Waimea River at a place called Laaukala; thence along river bank to fork of river at a place called “Laia.” Thence round edge of river to Puulima, then to and along a causeway Manueleele; thence to cactus bushes on top of hill called Kaunenuhi; Thence round ridge to Kahaleokoo; thence to Kahauokoleahale a rise on the ridge; thence to Kanehenau, a rise on ridge, thence to Kakaikeke, a cracked tum[?] on ridge; thence to a flat on ridge called Kaimano; thence to Pohakulauheu; Thence to Kalehuahakehoki[?], a ridge; thence to a hill called Kaau[?], termination of Mokehana with Makaweli; Thence to [page 141] Kuaoahukini where the boundary joins that of Wainiha.
Luka Pehu, sworn: The boundary of Waimea commences at the sea adjoining Nualolo at a place called Puanaaeea and thence up ridge to Kawaipapa and thence to Poupou and thence to Pohakuwaawaa, thence up and along ridge to Puuopele; thence up to alakai.
Does not know any further.
The foregoing evidence being so unsatisfactory the commission was unable to form any opinion in reference to the boundary of Waimea adjoining Wanapui, Kalalau, Hanakapiai, and Wainiha, requested Mr. James Gay to proceed to the pali lands and compare the evidence taken in reference to said pali lands, with the evidence taken by the commissioner at Waimea and the evidence of several old natives resident at Milolii. .... e land of Makaweli as follows returning to place of commencement of survey at old Fort. The boundary runs thence up the eastern bank of the Waimea river to opposite the confluence of the Waimea and Makaweli rivers, thus;
North 30° 50' East 6200 links up eastern bank of stream
North 44° 36' East 3200 links up eastern bank of stream past bluff;
North 21° 5' West 2900 links crossing Makaweli stream and along the east of Waimea stream;
North 12° 31' East 1100 links up east bank of stream to stones set thus [river shown with stones set perpendicular] where the boundary leaves the river;
South 85° 42' East 1670 links passing along causeway between the [?] of land called Palawai & Puulima & up through cliffs
North 68° 38' East 1960 links to top of cliff above Makaweli Valley;
North 21° 17' West 1600 links up ridge to cactus bushes to stones set thus [triangle]; [page 146]
North 22° 49' East 10950 links up ridge to top of Nahaleakoo;
North 26° 28' East 15600 up ridge and down to Waiawaawa boundary;
North 79° 55' East 600 links crossing Waiawaawa gully to spur
North 26° 25' East 586 links up ridge on crest of Waiawaawa Gully;
North 27° 58' East 792 links;
North 50° 34' East 1199 links;
North 16° 23' East 495 links;
North 42° 45' East 563 links;
North 16° 22' West 458 links
North 8° 31' East 662 links;
North 10° 27' West 871 links;
North 1° 12' West 807 links;

North 83° 1' West 1109 links crossing a low hollow along land called Moole in Makaweli;
North 26° 28' East 14700 links crossing several gullies and on up to the top of Halehuahakihaki following in an east direction the watershed of ridge to a place called Kapoki, the east corner of this land (for further particulars see plan). Area within the survey 92,646 acres.
