Dear Sir; I have respectfully to request that you will define and settle the boundaries of the following named lands (Ahupuaa) in South Kona, Hawaii, viz. Honaunau and Kahauloa belonging to me, Keei (1st I think) belonging to Mrs. Bishop (my wife) and Keei (2nd I think) belonging to Madam Akahi, the latter has been surveyed by Kaelemakule, the man who surveyed Puuepa and her other lands.
Kahauloa, was Kupakee's property. I now intend to have Mr. Wiltse do the surveying that may be necessary for the settlement of these boundaries. Unless there is some important difference regarding the interior boundaries you need not spend time (which is money) in taking testimony. If any dispute between Honaunau and Keei, I would prefer that you favor Keei, a little in preference to Honauanu.
Honaunau is bounded on the North by Mrs. Bishop's land Keei, south by Keelikolani's land; Keokea (and some other perhaps); makai by the sea and mauka I suppose by Keauhou.
Keei (1st) is bounded on the North by Akahi's land, Keei 1; South by Honaunau, makai by the sea and mauka by Keauhou.
Keei 2d (Akahi's land) is bounded on the north by Kahauloa; South by Mrs. Bishop's Keei, makai by the sea, and mauka by [left blank].
Kahauloa is bounded on the north by Kahauloa and Kealakekua; South by Keei 2d; makai by the sea and mauka by Keauhou.
Which will be sent to have the surveyor meet you at Honaunau, when you go to take the testimony or to make the survey as beforehand. Very truly yours, C.R. Bishop

The Ahupuaa of Honaunau, District South Kona, Island of Hawaii, 3rd Judicial Circuit
On this Fifth day of August A.D. 1873 the commissioner of Boundaries met at Keopuka, South Kona, for the hearing of the application of C.R. Bishop, for the settlement of the boundaries of Honaunau. Notice of the hearing of applications for settlement of ands in North and South Kona on August 2nd 1873, having been published in the Hawaiian gazette and Kuokoa, and notice personally served on owners and Agents of adjoining lands, as far as known.
Present: J.G. Hoapili for applicant, for Mrs. C.R. Bishop, her Excellency, R. Keelikolani and Madam Akahi.

Kawaha, kane, sworn, I was born at Honaunau, South Kona, Hawaii at the time of Peleleu. I lived on said land until after it was sold, then moved to Keei. The land of Keokea bounds Honaunau on the south side; my kupuna told me the boundaries between these two lands; at shore is at a place called Keakuaaniwau[?], a papa konane (sort of checker board) on the pahoehoe, where the natives used to pay a game with pebbles called konane. Thence the boundary runs mauka to Pohakuloa, a place near the makai Government road; a large rock. I do not know the points between these places. Do not know the boundaries on this side above this point.
Keei is on the North side of Honaunau the boundary between these two lands at the seashore is at a cave called Kapukalua; said cave has two entrances, and is on the North side of a point called Konane.
Thence mauka along Keei to Kaohu o Keawe; a very large ....

.... pointed out as the boundary between Keauhou and this land. I am Mr. Bishop's Agent to look after his interests. I requested the kamaaina from this land to point out the mauka boundary, and they said that they could not point it out, and refused to go any further. They said that the land went further mauka but could not point it out. They said there were two ahu on the boundary. Keakikawai pointed out two ahu, and said those were the ones. Cross-Examined. The kamaaina from this point seemed to be lost above the woods. Testimony closed.
Decision The boundaries of Honaunau are decided to be as given in notes of survey filed by Mr. Hitchcock. Certificate of boundaries to be issued as of today, No. 109. Upon the application of C.R. Bishop and by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, as sole Commissioner of Land boundaries for the Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit, I hereby decide and certify the boundaries of the Ahupuaa of Honaunau, situated in the District of South Kona, Island of Hawaii, to be as hereinafter set forth. Given under my hand at Hilo, Hawaii, the twenty-seventh day of June, A.D. 1876 R.A. Lyman, Commissioner of Boundaries, 3d Judicial Circuit.
