Testimony
Rev. Makuakane, kane, sworn, says I know land of Ililoa. It is a small land between Kauaea and Opihikao in Puna. I know its boundaries. The boundary at the shore on the Hilo side between this land and Kauaea is at the Ahupuaa (ahupohaku) where they used to set up the idol; it is on a point. Thence the boundary runs up mauka along old iwi aina to place called Ahuamalama, at the mauka end of the land, where the iwi aina between this land, and Kauaea turns towards Kau, and cuts this land off to junction with land of Opihikao.
Thence the boundary between Ililoa and Opihikao runs makai along old iwi aina to a sea shore to a point in sea called Hoea. It is bounded on the makai side by the sea, and had ancient fishing rights extending out to sea. The land of Kauaea has been surveyed. Part of Opihikao has been surveyed and patented to myself.
Cross-examined.
Kahula, kane, sworn, says, I was born at Kauaea, Puna, Hawaii. I have heard that it was at the time of Houlu ako ana o Hailihope ma Hilo. I know the land of Ililoa.
I and my father had charge of it for 20 years for Kamehameha I. The boundary at the shore between this land and Kauaea is at an ahupuaa or ahupohaku at a point on the shore; Thence the boundary between these lands runs mauka along old iwi aina, an iwi pohaku to mauka side of Ahuamalama; thence the iwi turns across the head of the land to boundary of Opihikao. Thence the boundary of this land runs makai along iwi aina of Opihikao to point at sea shore called Koea. Bounded makai by the sea, and has ancient fishing rights extending out to sea.
Cross-examined.
The survey made by Leve (D.B. Lyman) of boundary adjoining Kauaea is correct.
