On this the 29th day of February, A.D. 1876, the Commission of land Boundaries for the Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit, met at the Court House at Hilo, Hawaii, on the application of F. H. Harris, attorney at Law for J.O. Dominis, Administrator of the estate of Her Royal Highness, V. K. Kamamalu, for the settlement of the boundaries of the Ahupuaa of Kahuwai, situated in the District of Puna, Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit.
Notice of time and place of hearing personally served on applicant and interested parties, as far as known.
Present: L. Kaina for applicant, Hawaiian Government., &c, &c.
Testimony
Kamahele, kane, sworn, says, I was bornt [sic] Kahuwai, Puna, Hawaii at the time of going after sandalwood at Ohaikea. Have always lived there and am a kamaaina of the land. I went with D.B. Lyman (Leve) when he surveyed the land. It was some years since. I do not remember how long. Kapou (now dead) was the kamaaina who pointed out the boundaries at that time, and the land was surveyed to the boundaries pointed out. Kapou was a middle-aged man and was the konohiki of the land. I knew part of the boundaries before, but had never been all around the land with the kamaaina, and had the boundaries pointed out to me.
The land of Halepuaa bounds this land at the shore on the Puna side, and the boundary between them is at place called Ka. Kapahu's purchase on Halepuaa bounds it there, mauka of that Kanalaeole's land bounds it. We surveyed across the land from one side to the other at Government road, and surveyed up Hilo side along boundary of Waawaa. Place called Ponelu is the boundary at shore between this land and Waawaa; thence the boundary runs mauka along Pakaka's purchase ....
