To the President of the Land Commissioners, Greetings: I again state my claim for land at Malanahae, Hamakua, Hawaii.
The right was acquired as follows: When Kamehameha II sailed to Kawaihae - this was Kaneuwaine* - the land of the Ali`i was cut up there. Then the Ali`i gave Malanahae to Hikiau. Kaleimoku said "This land is for my kaikaina." Then the chiefs ....

Luluhiwalani has brought us a document of land division that is the half of Pouhala in Waikele on Oahu here and the half of Malanahae at Hamakua on Hawaii. S.P. Kalama has been asked by correspondence to come and relate the history of his division.
