The Ahupuaa of Paauau, District of Kau, Island of Hawaii 3rd Judicial Circuit
On this the 21st day of March A.D. 1873, the Commissioner of Boundaries, for the 3rd Judicial Circuit, Island of Hawaii, met at the house of J.G. Lyman, Kauhuhuula, Keaiua Kau.After notice, personally served, on owners of adjoining lands, for the hearing of the application of Honorable C.R. Bishop, for the settlement, of the boundaries, of the ahupuaa of Paauau, situated, in Kau, Hawaii.
Present: J.S. Lyman on the part of applicant; and self; J. Kauhane, on part of Hawaiian Government; and Nahala (kane), the balance of adjoining lands, are held by Royal Patents.

Dear Sir:
You will please have the boundaries of the land called Paauau in Kau, belonging to Mrs. Bernice Pauahi Bishop, and now leased to J.G. Lyman, surveyed defined and settled.
The said land is bounded as follows:
On the East by the sea, with the fishing rights of the sea.On the South by Paauauiki according to Royal Patent No. owned by J.G. Lyman.Royal Patent No. sold by Govt to Kamalo, and now owned by Reed and Richardson Royal Patents No 1370 and 2655 owned by Nahala, by Paauauiki and Makaka owned by the Government - on the East by Kauhuhuula owned by Government and Royal Patent No. [left blank] owned by L.G. Lyman.

Nahala, (kane) I was born, and now live on Paauau. Kau. Hawaii. was born sometime before Kamehameha's death, went to Kuiwai maka Lae, and was old enough to remember it well.have always lived on Paauau and the adjacent lands of Makaka and Kapuu.Know the boundaries of Paauau, having been shown them by my parents when we went after mamaki, olona, and birds, the olona was mostly on Makaka.It was Kapu for people living on one land to go and take things from another if they did the folks of the other land would take their things away from them.Alohikea's parents and my mother showed me the makai boundaries and also boundaries in the woods.There is a cave used as a burial place on the shore.The lands adjoining Paauau on the South side are Paauauiki, as far as Waihalulu and from there to upper end of Makaka these lands belong to the Hawaiian Government, and portions beginnin ....
