I beg to make application to you to define and settle the boundaries of the ahupuaa of Honohina situated in the district of Hilo, Hawaii, also the boundaries of the Ahupuaa of Keaholu situated in the district of Kona, Hawaii.

The Ahupuaa of Honohina, District of Hilo, Island of Hawaii, 3rd Judicial Circuit
The Commission of boundaries for the island of Hawaii 3rd Judicial Circuit met at the court house, Hilo, on this, the 8th day of February A.D. 1875 on the application of J.O. Dominis Adminsitrator Estate M. Kekuanaoa by F.H. Harris, his Attorney for the settlement of the boundaries of Honohina situated in the District of Hilo, Hawaii. Due notice personally served on all owners or agents of adjoining lands as far as known.
Present: E.G. Hitchcock on part of applicant, Agent of Crown Lands & Estate of M. Kekuanaoa; D. Kamai for Hawaiian Government; Alapai for self. Map and notes of survey filed.

Testimony
Ku, kane, sworn (same witness as [on] Piha), I was born at Honohina and am a kamaaina. My father, Kulamahiai pointed out boundaries to me. Nanue bounds Honohina on the Hamakua side, the gulch is the boundary from shore to place on gulch called Kaahina; Thence it is bounded by Piha to upper edge of gulch to Nauhi gulch. Thence along Humuula to land of Hakalau at Nawaoheu[?] gulch. Hakalau gulch does not run through woods. The boundary of Humuula is above Hopuwai, and has always been showed to me at that point. Opea bounds Honohina at shore on Hilo side, and boundary runs up gulch to Kamakahanau, a high ahua; there is a pali there. The water in Opea stream belongs to Honohina, and also the pali on Hilo side. (E.G. Hitchcock on part of applicant states that he does not claim the pali on Hilo side of stream, but claims water). From Hamakahanau, Honohina is bounded by Umauma, to Pihaakau, bo ....

.... os; West magnetic 120 chains along the Land Umauma to a point on the North or main branch of the Umauma gulch called "Pihaakau" (an old trail crossing);
11. South 28° 0; West magnetic 74 chains along Umauma to a point called "Mohaluhalu" on the south branch of the Umauma Gulch, called here Punaluu Maloo. This point, the junction of Honohina and Hakalau, is laid down on the Government Map 8520 ft. North (true), and 27800 ft. West of the Kauku trig. Station;
12. South 73° 50' West (true) 33190 feet along Kakalau to its Northwest corner, marked by an ahu or Cairn on a commanding elevation above the lower trail, 1/2 mile South of Hopuwai; mark on Rock H.H. [triangle]: (it is 6900 feet North and 600 feet East of Kaloaloa trig. Station;
13. North 5° 50' West (true) 6250 feet along Humuula, passing mauka of Hopuwai, to the Nauhi Gulch [page 344] (same as Umauma), and boundary of Piha;
14. North 76° 20' East (true) 31600 feet along Piha to a point 4900 Northwesterly from Mohaluhalu as above;
15. North 60° 30' East (true) 12600 feet along Piha, the Painiu Gulch being the boundary, to a point called "Kaahina," at the head of the Land Nanue, 54 chains, Northerly from head of Umauma specified above;
16. Thence down the middle of the Gulch dividing this land from Nanue to the sea, the distance being about 360 chains;
17. Thence along the sea South 43° 0' East magnetic 25 chains to point of beginning;
Containing an area, as near as can be computed from the known positions of Gulches, of Six Thousand Acres

It is therefore adjudged and I do hereby decide and certify that the boundaries of the said land, are, and hereafter shall be as hereinbefore set forth.
