To the Honorable Board of Commissioners, &c.
Gentlemen, Pursuant to the notice published in the Polynesian, I herewith send you my claim to the land, known as Kukui hau uuku, situated in the village of Honaunau, in the district of Kona, on the Island of Hawaii. The land was given me by Governor Adams, Kuakini, in April 1836 for work done by me as a mason on the church at Kailua. I was the only person out of four who took a land for my services, the other foreigners were paid off in money and goods, &c. As I had a family of 3 children I preferred a land to anything else, as I could leave it to them when I should be gone from them, having received it for my services to be my own thoroughly and my childrens' after. Kainapau and J. Pelham, sworn, they have seen 1 section, Kukuihaaiki, ili in Honaunau ahupuaa with 27 9/100 acres in it. Metcalf had done a thorough survey. Land from J.A. Kuakini for claimant's work on the Mokuaikana chapel in Kailua. No one had objected.
