A man with a right of cultivation. I, Papa, have a right because of my planting of a clump of bamboo with my own hands and I have thought of setting things to right from the beginning. Because of the taking by Puna, the konohiki, and the awarding by the tax official, Kaiwi, to Puna's side, I have decided to appeal to the ones designated as Land Commissioners, sitting in Hilo.
At Kukuau I is my clump of bamboo which I planted. My house and the land on which I live is Kukuau II.

Konohiki of Kukuau I
The undersigned is the one who will settle this under Puna who has the land and everything pertaining thereto.
At a certain time came the word of Puna who had the clumps of bamboo which Papa had planted, thus: "If the ones who has the bamboo is living there, then that bamboo is his, but because he does not live there he shall be deprived of the bamboo and you shall move there and take care of the bamboo." Because of this though ....

On the south by fence of Waiawa.
It is surrounded by a fence, has 2 houses belong to Papa.
He had the land and has resided thereon since the time of Kamehameha I. From Kueu, Lot 2 consists of a bambo [bamboo] patch within the lot 1 of Aiko [and] has owned it since the year 1843.

Section 1: House lot
Mauka by Kamakani's lot
Hamakua by Kauanui's lot
Makai by government road
Puna by Wahiawa's lot.
Lot is enclosed, 2 houses for Papa.
Land from Hueu since the time of Kamehameha I to the present day.
Section 2: A bamboo grove is in Aikos lot and all around are Aikos boundaries.
This is Papa's bamboo grove, he had planted it.
Kukelekai, sworn, Papa does have a claim just as Kaheananui had stated here. The konohiki had opposed in 1843.
